Tell Them We Were Here is a powerful feature-length documentary about eight San Francisco Bay Area artists making politically motivated, socially conscious artwork. Embedded within their art practices we see the most pressing issues of our time, Prison Reform, Homelessness, Racial Equity, Feminism, Environmental Justice, Income Inequality. As individuals, these artists are examples of perseverance and generosity, but, together they represent an empowering alternative worldview that emphasizes creativity and community over capitalism. The film reminds us of how vital creative communities are to healthy societies and political change. Featuring, among others Sadie Barnette, Amy Franceschini, Alicia McCarthy, Nigel Poor of Ear Hustle, Jim Goldberg, Tucker Nichols, Lynn Hershman Leeson.
Vetiver is the long running stage and recording name of San Francisco’s Andy Cabic. Vetiver was formed in 2002 and was part of the earliest waves of the freak folk movement along with Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom. Over the years the band has toured with Wilco, Fleet Foxes, Fruit Bats and The Shins. Their latest album Up On High has been called a “Masterful Collection”.
