The Florida Project @ 7:30PM

Warm, winning, and gloriously alive, Sean Baker’s The Florida Project is a deeply moving and unforgettably poignant look at childhood.

Set on a stretch of highway just outside the imagined utopia of Disney World, The Florida Project follows six-year-old Moonee (Brooklynn Prince in a stunning breakout turn) and her rebellious mother Halley (Bria Vinaite, another major discovery) over the course of a single summer. The two live week to week at “The Magic Castle,” a budget motel managed by Bobby (a career-best Willem Dafoe), whose stern exterior hides a deep reservoir of kindness and compassion.

Despite her harsh surroundings, the precocious and ebullient Moonee has no trouble making each day a celebration of life, her endless afternoons overflowing with mischief and grand adventure as she and her ragtag playmates—including Jancey, a new arrival to the area who quickly becomes Moonee’s best friend—fearlessly explore the utterly unique world into which they’ve been thrown. Unbeknownst to Moonee, however, her delicate fantasy is supported by the toil and sacrifice of Halley, who is forced to explore increasingly dangerous possibilities in order to provide for her daughter.

Fallen Angels @ 2:30PM & 5:00PM & 7:30PM

Lost souls reach out for human connection amidst the glimmering night world of Hong Kong in Wong Kar Wai’s hallucinatory, neon-soaked nocturne. Originally conceived as a segment of Chungking Express only to spin off on its own woozy axis, this hyper-cool head rush plays like the dark, moody flip side to Wong’s breakout feature as it charts the subtly interlacing fates of a handful of urban loners, including a coolly detached hitman (Leon Lai) looking to go straight, his business partner (Michelle Reis) who secretly yearns for him, and a mute delinquent (Takeshi Kaneshiro) who wreaks mischief by night. Swinging between hardboiled noir and slapstick lunacy with giddy abandon, Fallen Angels is both a dizzying, dazzling city symphony and a poignant meditation on love, loss, and longing in a metropolis that never sleeps.

MOViES FOR MANiACS Double Feature ~ Pump Up the Volume @7:00pm & Trick or Treat @9:20pm

Hosted by Jesse Hawthorne Ficks

7:00pm - Pump Up the Volume (1990) - 35th Anniversary
Written & Directed by Allan Moyle, showcasing Christian Slater, Samantha Mathis, Cheryl Pollak, Seth Green

Celebrate the 35th anniversary of one the most underrated teen films of the 1990s. Christian Slater gives the performance of his career as a shy high schooler who's forced to move to a suburb in Phoenix, Arizona during his senior year. Once he starts his own pirate radio show (under the pseudonym of Hard Harry), his subversive late night ranting and raving begins to attract more than just his very own sweetheart (Samantha Mathis). Perfectly capturing the "grunge era" with a neo-sincere script as well as a treasured soundtrack including Sonic Youth, The Pixies, Bad Brains, Soundgarden and Leonard Cohen, the film is as relevant today as it was 35 years ago. Inspiring films such as Donnie Darko (2001) and The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), writer/director Allan Moyle has had a track record of capturing disaffected youth beginning with the punk classic Times Square (1981) and then again in Empire Records (1995). Find your flannel shirt, bust out some Ankh jewelry and be prepared to "talk hard". Preceded by a fistful of 1990s trailers along with a ton of trivia and special giveaways. Rated R for moderate nudity, profanity and subversive subject matter. Running Time: 105min. DCP courtesy of

9:20pm - Trick or Treat (1986) - Rare 35mm print!

Directed by Charles Martin Smith, showcasing Marc Price, Tony Fields, Lisa Orgolini, Gene Simmons (of Kiss) and Ozzy Osbourne

Finally re-released after nearly 40 years, this overlooked 1980s teen flick (not to be confused with the 2007 horror anthology Trick r' Treat) is a profoundly affecting 1980s horror film that uniquely confronts depression in America's suburbia by way of "sleaze metal". Marc Price (of the TV show Family Ties fame) is spot-on as Eddie Weinbauer, a bullied teen who finds solace in his cassettes, vinyl LPs and Heavy Metal heroes. As Eddie spirals into the disturbing messages played backwards on his new Metal album, creature-feature artist Chuck Yagher (who designed the SFX for A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, 3, 4 and the first threeChild's Play films) concocts a slew of jaw-dropping monsters. Released a full year before The Lost Boys (1987) and The Gate(1987), this quintessential MOViES FOR MANiACS experience also showcases an incredible original metal soundtrack by "Fastway", headed by former Motörhead guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke. Preceded by a gaggle of 1980s trailers along with a ton of trivia and special giveaways. Rated R for moderate sex, nudity, violence profanity and subversive subject matter. Running Time: 98min. Rare 35mm print with rights courtesy of

ODYSSEY FILM INSTITUTE PRESENTS: BLUE VELVET on 35mm film @ 4:00pm

Home from college, Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) makes an unsettling discovery: a severed human ear, lying in a field. In the mystery that follows, by turns terrifying and darkly funny, writer-director David Lynch burrows deep beneath the picturesque surfaces of small-town life. Driven to investigate, Jeffrey finds himself drawing closer to his fellow amateur sleuth, Sandy Williams (Laura Dern), as well as their person of interest, lounge singer Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini)—and facing the fury of Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper), a psychopath who will stop at nothing to keep Dorothy in his grasp. With intense performances and hauntingly powerful scenes and images, Blue Velvet is an unforgettable vision of innocence lost, and one of the most influential American films of the late twentieth century.

STREET TRASH (2024) on 35mm film @ 8PM (Copy)

A reimagining of the 1979 seminal “melt movie” classic, STREET TRASH follows a group of homeless misfits as they navigate the strange and hostile streets of CapeTown, South Africa. When newcomer to the streets, Alex, joins the group; leader Ronald takes her under his wing to teach her all he knows about surviving the streets. With the help of her new homeless comrades; Chef, 2-Bit, Pap and Wors, Alex soon learns that life on the streets comes with a whole new set of problems. The local crime boss, known as the Rat King, is after her and the sinister Mayor Mostert is planning to eliminate all homeless people using the experimental chemical “V” – a substance that melts through flesh and turns human bone to goo. When Ronald and the gang are rounded up and imprisoned during Mayor Mostert’s final phase of extermination, Alex must make an unlikely ally of the Rat King to free her friends and save the streets. In a daring rescue, Alex - and the rest of the city’s surviving homeless population - escape and take to the streets to turn their oppressors’ weapon against them
