What are you doing on Saturday night? We would normally be celebrating Record Store Day with our friends at NOISE Records, but it looks like we’ll be staying home this year. We are opening a new movie this week called Other Music about a great record store in New York City, and it seems like a great opportunity to help out our friends at NOISE. There is a GoFundMe started for them here where you can help them in this difficult time, and we will be hosting a movie night on Saturday night where half of the proceeds go to them. Here’s what we’ve got going this week:

CinemaSF Stay-At-Home Saturday Movie Night #7:

Watch OTHER MUSIC with record buff Adam hosting our chat room on Saturday April 18 (Record Store Day!) at 7pm. Other Music was an influential and uncompromising New York City record store that was vital to the city’s early 2000s indie music scene. But when the store is forced to close its doors due to rent increases, the homogenization of urban culture, and the shift from CDs to downloadable and streaming music, a cultural landmark is lost. Through vibrant storytelling, the documentary captures the record store’s vital role in the musical and cultural life of the city, and highlights the artists whose careers it helped launch including Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, William Basinski, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sharon Van Etten, Yo La Tengo and TV On The Radio. Half of our proceeds from this show will go to NOISE Records.

Join the chat room at cinemasf.com/chat-room

It is easy to join in. Just create a nickname for yourself and we can begin talking about the movie by typing your words in the text box at the bottom of your computer screen. Harry will be moderating the chat room. Lets keep it light and friendly, and be aware that we all may be watching it at somewhat different times, so no spoilers!
